History
Birds are one of the most diverse group of vertebrates, with over 10,000 species. They are characterized by their feathers and toothless beaks. Though many can fly, this isn’t always the case. Some examples of flightless birds include penguins and kiwis. Birds are technically a derived group of reptiles, and are actually considered the only living dinosaurs. Their closest living relatives are the crocodilians.
