History:
A predator is a species that uses other animals as its food source. Predators must hunt and kill their prey, either through actively searching, or by sitting and waiting. Predators like lions are known as “pursuit predators” that must actively track down their prey. Every member of the hunting group has a specific role to play. Animals like alligators and other crocodilians, on the other hand, are known as “ambush predators” who sit and wait, usually camouflaged in some way, and quickly strike when a prey animal comes near.
