History
The landmass that would become Australia broke from the landmass that would become South America and Africa about 150 million years ago during the Jurassic period. From that moment, the landmass embarked on a unique geological and natural journey. 80 or 90 million years ago, the continent shed Antarctica and New Zealand, and from then, life on Australia began to diverge. Enter Procoptodon, a giant kangaroo measuring more than 6 feet tall and weighing more than 500 pounds. It grazed the Australian continent during the Pleistocene age, about 2.5 million years ago. From this mighty ancestor came the many kangaroo species that exist today, from the impressive red kangaroo to the tiny rat kangaroos.
