Description
Because of the concerns of the new fighters of the Allies, the German Air Force put out requirements for the new fighters. The design of the Dr.Kurt Tank finally became the Fw 190 which was regarded as one of the best fighters up to the end of WWII. The impressive performance of the Fw 190 soon led to the replacement of the Messerschmidt Bf-109.
The Fw 190D-12 R14 was the torpedo fighter version of the D-12. It has the same large vertical stabilizer as the Ta 152 and D-10 model. The aircraft featured the MK108 30mm cannon firing through the propeller hub, and can carry a LT1b or LTF5b torpedo on the center-line ETC504 bomb rack under the fuselage.
